Athletes interested in competing at the Maccabiah Games need to apply on line at www.maccabiusa.com by September 15. Athletes will be selected for the Team based on the submission of a judo resume. Selection Criteria for the
USA Judo Team to the
2008 International Judo Federation Junior World Judo Championships
USA Judo will conduct Trials to select the USA Judo Team to the 2008 Junior World Judo Championships which will be held Oct. 23-26 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Trials competition will provide a means to determine the USA Junior World Judo Team member from among up to four fighters in attendance at the Trials for each contested weight division:
Male: 60, 66, 73, 81, 90, 100 and +100kg
Female: 48, 52, 57, 63, 70, 78 and +78kg
The Trials competition will be held in conjunction with the 2008 USA Judo Fall Classic.
ENTRY TO THE TRIALS:
Four athletes will be admitted in each of the Male and Female IJF weight divisions:
Male: 60, 66, 73, 81, 90, 100 and +100kg
Female: 48, 52, 57, 63, 70, 78 and +78kg
The four athletes admitted to each of the above listed IJF Junior World Championship weight divisions shall be admitted, and seeded, according to the established USA Judo Junior seeding protocols, based on their placement on the USA Judo National Elite Athlete IJF Junior Roster that is completed following the conclusion of the 2008 Junior Olympic National Championships. Should any of the athletes ranked in the top four decline to participate, the slot will be offered to the next highest ranked athlete on the roster. Subsequent declines will result in a progressive movement down the roster, according to the same criteria.
THE COMPETITION:
The Trials will be held in conjunction with the 2008 Fall Classic National Championships, August 30 in Spokane, Wash.
Each Trial division will be comprised of the top FOUR athletes on the USA Judo National Elite Athlete IJF Junior Roster, as explained above, who are in attendance as of the close of Trials registration AT the Fall Classic Nationals.
The method of competition will be a direct elimination of FOUR persons, seeded according to the established USA Judo seeding protocols. The winners of the Pool A and Pool B matches will progress to the final match.
Pool A: #1 fights #4;
Pool B: #2 fights #3;
FINAL: winners of Pool A and Pool B fight
Selection of Athletes and Alternates: If the #1 seed wins the Trials, that person shall be the athlete selected in each category of competition. If the #1 seed loses the Trials, the #1 seed and the winner of the Trials shall then engage in one "sudden death" contest. The winner of that fight off shall be the athlete selected for that category of competition.
If the athlete selected, according to the above criteria, declines for any reason, the person who is then ranked highest, on the USA Judo National Elite Athlete IJF Junior Roster, at the close of the 2008 USA Judo National Junior Olympic Championships, will be the athlete selected. Subsequent declines will result in a progressive movement down the roster, according to the same criteria.
