Personal: Justin started competing in judo at the age of eight along with his brother Jake in Southern California. The two grew up together on the mat being coached by their father. By his teen years, Justin realized he had the potential to become one of the top judokas in the world, but after graduating high school he decided to put his judo career on hold and accept a full wrestling scholarship at the University of Nebraska. After three years of wrestling and considerable success at the national level, the love of the sport brought Justin back to judo.
