Midwestern Championships Held in Libertyville, Ill. This Weekend
More than 400 judo players from throughout the nation will be competing at the Midwestern Championships, the second domestic point event of the season, March 12, in Libertyville, Ill.
The tournament will be held at the Libertyville Sports Complex with competition beginning at 9 a.m. for the senior elite divisions, followed by junior, senior novice and masters competition.

Senior elite athletes scheduled to compete include:
- Ann Shiraishi (Elk Grove, Calif./Okubu/APOA Judo Club/48kg), 2005 Irish Open gold medalist
- Sayaka Matsumoto (El Cerrito, Calif./NYAC/East Bay Judo Institute/52kg), 2005 World Team Member and six-time National Champion
- Ashley Martini (Chicago, IIl./Tohkon Judo Academy/57kg), 2005 Nationals silver medalist
- Ronda Rousey (Buffalo Grove, Ill./NYAC/Cohen’s Judo Club/70kg), 2005 World Team Member, 2004 Olympian and World Junior Champion
- Kayla Harrison (Middletown, Ohio/Renshuden/70kg), 2005 U.S. Open and Senior Nationals bronze medalist
- Katie Sell (Oshkosh, Wis./Welcome Mat Judo/70kg), 2005 Nationals bronze medalist
- Molly O’Rourke (El Cerrito, Calif./East Bay Judo Institute/78kg), 2005 World Team Member and National Champion
- Nate Torra (El Cerrito, Calif./East Bay Judo Institute/66kg), 2005 Nationals silver medalist
- RJ Cohen (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Cohen’s Judo Club/73kg), 2005 Nationals bronze medalist
- Aaron Cohen (Buffalo Grove, Ill./NYAC/Cohen’s Judo Club/81kg), 2005 World Team Member and National Champion
- Kirk Hoffmann (Colorado Springs, Colo./Olympic Training Center USA Judo National Training Site/+100kg), 2005 World Team Member and National Champion
- Daniel McCormick (Arlington, Texas/Bedford Kodokan Judo Club/+100kg), 2005 Nationals silver medalist and British Open bronze medalist
