European Tour Selection Procedures

 

The following are the procedures for athlete selections for the 2007 European Tour:

The number one (1) ranked athlete, in each of the IJF weight categories, according to the Senior National Roster which is in effect as of December 4, 2006  shall have the opportunity to select three (3) events from the 2007 European Tour schedule. Number one ranked athletes must identify and submit their selections to the USA Judo National Office, by E-mail (MaryAnn.Relich@USAJudo.us) no later than midnight December 11, 2006.­

The number two (2) ranked athletes, according to the same Senior National Roster, will be given the opportunity to select two (2) competitions in Europe to compete in from the remaining tournaments available. The number two (2) ranked athletes must submit their selection(s) to the USA Judo National Office, by E-mail, no later than midnight December 18, 2006.

The number three (3) ranked athletes, according to the same Senior National Roster, will be given the opportunity to select one (1) event from the remaining tournaments available. The number three (3) athletes must submit to the USA Judo National Office, by E-mail, their tournament selection, no later than midnight December 27, 2006.

The number four (4) ranked athletes, according to the same Senior National Roster, will be given the opportunity to select one (1) competition in Europe from among the remaining tournaments available. These athletes must submit to the USA Judo National Office, by E-mail their tournament preferences no later than midnight January 4, 2007.

The number five (5) ranked athletes, according to the same Senior National Roster, will be given the opportunity to select one (1) European competition from among the remaining events. These athletes must submit their choice to the USA Judo National Office, by E-mail, their event selection preferences no later than midnight January 11, 2007.

Note:  Athlete’s rankings for these selections shall be as identified on the Senior National Roster in effect on December 4, 2006 and will not be altered by the participation or lack of participation of any athlete ranked above or below any other athlete. 

An athlete only may choose to compete in a weight division in which he or she is ranked.  For example, a #1-ranked athlete in the 81kg division, may sign up for European Tour competitions in the 81kg division.  If this athlete has another ranking in another weight division and would prefer to compete in that division, he / she must wait until the appropriate corresponding deadline for his / her ranking in the division in which he / she would like to compete.

If after this selection process, there are still European events available, the number one (1) ranked athlete can submit a request, to the National Coaching & Training Subcommittee, in writing, for permission to participate in an additional two (2) tournaments. If events remain, the number two (2) ranked athletes can submit a request for an additional two (2) tournaments, and so on until all the European events are “taken,” or the top five (5) ranked athletes have not selected.

In the event additional European events remain, other athletes on the National Senior Roster may submit a request in writing to the National Coaching & Training Subcommittee for permission to participate.

In order to confirm their allocated slot or slots, athletes must deliver to the USA Judo National Office by e-mail  MaryAnn.Relich@USAJudo.us or fax (719) 866.4733 the attached form  for each event along with the credit card information for the non-refundable deposit or non-refundable full amount where applicable.

           USA JUDO WILL WIRE FUNDS TO ALL FEDERATIONS ON BEHALF OF THOSE REGISTERED ATHLETES WHO HAVE SUBMITED A VALID CREDIT CARD.  THESE FUNDS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.

Allocation of the spot will depend on transacting the event fees on the date of the submission of the request with a valid credit card.  The spot will not be secure without a valid credit card which will carry all applicable charges for the event.

Note:     As of this writing full event packages have not been received by USA Judo on all European “A” tour activities, so dates are projections, based on the IJF and EJU 2007 calendar.  A $300 non-refundable deposit will be charged to your credit card in order to hold your position.  Any variations from the announced dates will be immediately provided by E-mail and web postings on www.USJudo.org.  Thirty days prior to the event the balance of the lodging, entry fees, etc. will be charged to your credit card.  This is done so that USA Judo may wire the funds requested by the international federation.  Requests for tournament information have been made to all international federations involved by either fax or e-mail however we have not at this writing received all tournament packages.

The day following each ranked athletes response date, an updated matrix, showing the events taken by each criteria athlete will be posted on the USA Judo website at www.usjudo.org, under Senior Competition Opportunities.

All elite athletes are asked to provide USA Judo’s National Office with an E-mail contact address.  All athletes are reminded that participation according to your selection priority must be received by the above published deadline, and in writing, via E-mail to MaryAnn.Relich@USAJudo.us or FAX to (719) 866-4733.  The USA Judo National Office will likewise acknowledge confirmations, in writing, via the same medium utilized on receipt of the participation request.

All athletes must have paid all outstanding debts to USA Judo and be compliant with USADA regulations at the time of submission.

 

YOUR E-MAIL SUBMISSION CONSTITUTES YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF THE SLOT AND THE CHARGES WILL BE MADE TO YOUR CREDIT CARD PRIOR TO PLACING YOUR NAME ON THE MATRIX.
