2007 Fall Classic Results

The Fall Classic National Championships on Saturday served as a preview of things to come during the next year as new players staked their claim in divisions and others repeated their previous successes.

One of the day’s top stories was 46-year-old Rene Capo (Naperville, Ill. / Cohen’s Judo), a two-time Olympian (1988 and 1996), who upset both the #1-ranked player in the division and the current National Champion to win the 100kg title.. more>

Fall Classic Nationals Kick Off This Weekend

(Coral Springs, Fla.) – More than 200 athletes are expected to compete in the Fall Classic National Championships this weekend in Coral Springs, Fla. – one of the key domestic qualifying tournaments for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials – Judo which will be held June 13-14 in Las Vegas, Nev.  

The tournament will be held at Coral Springs Gymnasium, 2501 Coral Springs Dr.

The Fall Classic is a USA Judo Senior D-Level Point Tournament where athletes can obtain points on the USA Judo Senior Elite National Roster.  The top eight athletes in each qualified Olympic division following the Senior Nationals in April will have the opportunity to compete for berths on the U.S. Olympic Team.  

With much at stake and the winners virtually guaranteed slots at the Trials, nearly all of the top players are expected to be in attendance.  

The Fall Classic will be followed by the Ladder Tournament on Sunday which will include both senior athletes as well as master’s divisions.

Point Status:  Fall Classic is a Senior D-Level Point Tournament.  The Ladder Tournament is a Senior E-Level Point Tournament with no points.

Masters Divisions:   New this year...  Masters competition will be held during the on Sunday for athletes ages 30 and over.
