French Team to
Compete at
U.S.
Open as Part of USA Judo Exchange Program
Six athletes from
France
will be attending the Senior U.S. Open, Oct. 19-20 in
Gwinnett, Ga.,
for the first time in recent years as part of a new exchange program between
USA Judo and the Federation Francaise de Judo.
The six players will be coached by Sauveur Soriano
(Scarsdale, N.Y.)
and Maxime Nouvchy (FRA).
Three of the six French players traveled to the East Coast
in June to participate in three USA Judo Summer Training Camps and are
returning to compete in the Open.
Through this exchange program, during the coming months top
senior athletes as well as USA Judo Elite U-23 Team and junior athletes also
will have the opportunity to participate in exchange trips to
France
and train at INSEP,
France
’s
national judo training center.
“This program will bring opportunities for both training and
competition in
France
,
opening doors for our younger athletes to train with some of the best players
in the world,” said Eddie Liddie,
USA Judo Director of Athlete Performance. “Thanks to the help of Mr. Soriano, I’m looking forward to this program
expanding in 2008.”
Following the event, the French team will be participating in
the U.S. Open Training Camp from Oct. 21-23 along with more than 80 athletes
from at least 10 other countries.
Walk-up entries will still be accepted during registration
on Oct. 18 at the Marriott Norcross Hotel. For complete information and entry packet, visit http://www.usjudo.org/documents/USOpenDomesticentryPackage2007.pdf.
