Otto Super World Cup Day 2 Results
(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – None of the three U.S. athletes competing on the second day of the Otto Super World Cup on Sunday in Hamburg advanced out of the first round of competition.
Travis Stevens (Glenville, N.Y. / USA Judo National Training Site at the Jason Morris Judo Center / 81kg) lost in the first round to Saba Gavashelishvili (GEO) by yuko (quarter-point), waza-ari (half-point) and, ultimately ippon (instant win) scores.
Gavashelishvili won his next match, but then lost to Athens Olympic medalist Flavio Canto (BRA), eliminating Stevens.
In the 90kg division, Dariusz Mikolajczak (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Starrett Judo) competed in his first major event in more than a year on Sunday. Mikolajczak managed to earn a yuko score against David Loriashvili (GEO), but lost by waza-ari.
Loriashvili lost in the next round to Jorge Benavides (CUB), eliminating both himself and Mikolajczak.
Adler Volmar (Coral Springs, Fla. / USA Judo National Training Site at North Miami / 100kg), a 1996 Olympian, lost just over a minute into the first round by ippon to Michael Jurack (GER), an Athens bronze medalist.
Jurack lost in the next round to Luciano Correa (BRA), eliminating both himself and Volmar.
