2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Judo Athlete Notices

All athletes competing in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Judo, June 13-14 in Las Vegas, Nev., are advised that should an athlete who qualified for the Trials withdraw between the conclusion of the draw on June 12 and the start of competition OR fail to either make weight or appear during the allotted weigh-in time, the athlete will be removed from the draw.  In this instance, seeding will be reassigned with all athletes below the removed player moving up.  If the player in question was a #1 seed, the #2 seed will move into the #1 seed position and will assume all benefits given to the top seed as discussed in the 2008 Olympic Games Selection Criteria at http://www.usjudo.org/documents/2008OlympicGamesSelectionCriteria.pdf

In addition, the Trials Round and the Fight-off Round (if needed) are separate events that are using a single weigh-in. Once weigh-in is completed, if the fight off round becomes necessary, the #1 seed and one other athlete, who is the winner of the Trial round, each are assured of their spot in the Fight-off Round.

Schedule Clarification for Unqualified Divisions

Divisions that did not qualify for the Beijing Olympic Games (women’s 52kg, 63kg, 78kg and +78kg) will be contested during the first session of the day, beginning at 10 a.m.  The final and alternate matches for these divisions will not be run during the evening finals sessions.

Also, as a reminder, only athletes who win the Trials in divisions in which the United States has qualified to compete at the Beijing Olympic Games will be nominated to the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team.
