Vienna World Cup Day 1 Results

 

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Three U.S. men competed in the Vienna World Cup in Austria on Saturday. 

Pan American Games Champion Ryan Reser (Colorado Springs, Colo. / USA Judo National Training Site at the Olympic Training Center) lost in the first round of the 73kg division by ippon (instant win) to Kanstantsin Siamionau (BLR)

Siamionan won his next two matches, but lost in the quarter-finals, eliminating Reser.

Four-time National Champion Taraje Williams-Murray (Wakefield, Mass. / USA Judo National Team FORCE / NYAC) lost to four-time World Cup medalist Dimitri Dragin (FRA) by a yuko (quarter-point) and a koka (smallest points) in the first round.

In the repechage, Williams-Murray lost by a yuko to 2007 European U17 Champion Sarkhan Ahmadov (AZE).

Former Pan American Champion Taylor Takata (Colorado Springs, Colo. / USA Judo National Training Site at the Olympic Training Center) lost his opening round match to 2007 European Championships bronze medalist Tomasz Adamiec (POL) by a koka.

In the repechage, Takata lost on points to Oscar Penas (ESP), a fifth-place finisher at the 2004 Olympic Games and 2005 World Championships.

Competition continues on Sunday with the 81kg, 90kg, 100kg and +100kg divisions.
