(Colorado Springs, CO)
2008 Olympian Travis Stevens pummeled his way toward the World Cup podium in Budapest Sunday, landing in fifth place after winning four of six fights, two by ippon and two by waza-ari.
Coached by Jimmy Pedro at USA Judo National Team FORCE in Wakefield, Mass., Stevens, 24, took gold last year at USA Judo’s Senior National Championships.
At the European Judo Union’s World Cup for Men in Budapest, Hungary, Stevens won his first three matches by ippon and waza-aris, then lost to the French fighter Alain Schmitt, who eventually took silver in the 81 kilogram division.
Stevens went on to win one of his two remaining matches to take fifth overall.
