From the Desk of the Director of Coaching and Athlete Development
This year USA Judo is rolling out a series of National and Development Training Camps in cities throughout the United States.
These camps offer judo players the opportunity to train with other athletes outside their home dojo as well as receive top-level coaching from a lineup that includes Olympians Jimmy Pedro (Methuen, Mass.), Neil Adams (GBR), German Velazco (Coral Springs, Fla.), Pat Burris (Moore, Okla.), Leo White (Lilburn, Ga.) and Eddie Liddie (Colorado Springs, Colo.), among others.
The first event of this series of at least 15 camps was the USA Judo Winter Camp at the Lake Placid Training Center, Jan. 9-15. This camp drew top junior and senior athletes from the United States as well as eight other nations, including a large delegation from Team Canada.
At least one camp this year will be held at a USA Judo National Training Site with North Miami Head Coaches Jhonny Prado (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Velazco playing host to a five-day event in Miami, March 1-5.
Other training camps are being held in conjunction with national events, including the New York Open Training Camp in New York City, March 19-20; the USA-Japan Training Camp immediately following the High School National Championships in Chicago, March 27-28; the Junior U.S. Open Camp in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., July 25-27; and the U.S. Open International Training Camp this fall.
In addition, an event for the newly created USA Judo Elite U-23 Team will be led by Pedro, August 17-22 in Boston, Mass.
For more information on the events listed below or if your state organization is interested in playing host to a camp, contact Eddie Liddie at edliddie@usajudo.us or 719.866.3683.
Sincerely,
Eddie Liddie
