Dr. Frank Fullerton to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at the New York Open
The New York Open Judo Championship is pleased to announce that Dr. Frank Fullerton, Pan American Judo Union Sports Director, is being named the recipient of the New York Open's 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by the New York Athletic Club.
This award will be presented to Dr. Fullerton at the New York Open, March 18 at the NYAC, in grateful recognition of his lifetime dedication to the sport of judo.
During his distinguished career, Dr. Fullerton, a seventh-degree black belt and international referee, was a past president of USA Judo, member of the U.S. Olympic Committee Board of Directors and delegate to the International Judo Federation. Dr. Fullerton has received many honors for his work in the sport of judo, including his receipt of the John Osako award and recognition as the Black Belt Magazine Man of the Year.
“The New York Open Athletic Club’s New York Open Judo Championship Lifetime Achievement Award is given each year to a person that has given of themselves to the sport of judo during their lifetime,” said Tournament Director Dr. Mel Appelbaum. “This selection was made by the NYAC’s New York Open Executive Committee.”
Past recipients have included: Rusty Kanokogi, James Takemori, Dr. Eichi Koiwai, Hank Kraft, Y. Yonezuka and Y. Matsumura.
