International Judo Federation President Park and Executive Committee Members Arrive in Colorado Springs for Pan Am Juniors
(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – USA Judo is pleased to welcome International Judo Federation President Mr. Yong Sung Park (Korea) to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs for the Pan American Junior Championships, April 13-14.
Mr. Park, President of the IJF since 1995, has been actively involved with international judo for more than 20 years, serving in a variety of capacities including tenures as the President of the Korea Judo Association and Judo Competition Manager of the 1986 Asian Games and 1988 Olympic Games.
Mr. Park is joined by five IJF Executive Committee members:
- Mr. Jaime Cassanova (Dominican Republic), the IJF Vice President from the Pan American Region, is the President of the Pan American Judo Union as well as the Dominican Judo Federation.
- Mr. Francois Besson (France), the IJF Sports Director, is a Counsellor of the French Sports Minister and has served as the Technical Delegate for Judo at the 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games.
- Mr. Juan Carlos Barcos (Spain), the IJF Refereeing Director, is the President of the Royal Spanish Judo Federation.
- Mr. Claure (Bolivia), the IJF General Treasurer, is President of the Bolivia Judo Federation, General Treasurer of the Pan American Judo Union and National Director of International Olympic Committee Solidarity Course.
“We are very pleased to have Mr. Park and these distinguished members of the IJF join us for the Pan American Junior Championships,” said USA Judo President Dr. Ron Tripp (Norman, Okla.) “This event is returning to the United States for the first time in more than five years and we hope that both the athletes competing this week as well as our international friends have an excellent experience here in Colorado Springs.”
The Pan American Junior Championships begin with juvenile (15-16-year-olds) competition on Thursday followed by junior competition on Friday (17-19-year-olds).
