Jimmy Pedro Conducts New York Clinic
Two-time Olympic bronze medalist Jimmy Pedro (Methuen, Mass.) conducted a clinic for 45 participants, including youth, recreational and elite athletes, Sept. 30 at the Berkeley Carroll Athletic Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
The clinic was sponsored by USA Judo and New York State Judo, Inc.
Among the participants was Ali M. Baker, a New York City firefighter from Kyushu Judo Club who served as Pedro’s uke.
“Having Jimmy Pedro conduct this clinic was a great beginning to the new judo season, it encouraged and stimulated all,” said Rusty Kanokogi (Brooklyn, N.Y.), President of New York State Judo Inc. “Jimmy was gracious enough to bring his World and Olympic medals with him. One young woman rubbed it so hard several times that I thought the lettering was going to rub off. It kind of proves how much respect and admiration the judokas have for their American Judo heroes.”
