Former Junior National Champion Wins Illinois State Title in Wrestling

Lee Munster (Fox Lake, Ill. / Cohen’s Judo) won the Illinois AA State High School Wrestling Championships on Saturday.

The former junior national champion in judo is a freshman at Grant Community High School who went 4-0 to win the title.

In his opening match, Munster defeated Jimmy Chase of Glenbard North who was ranked second in the state going into the tournament. Munster threw Chase with a drop sode in overtime.  In the quarter-finals, Munster beat Bill Putman of Chicago Marianist, 3-2.

The semifinal match pitted Munster against Chris Spangler, the defending champion from Neuqua Valley, 4-2.  In the final, Lee beat Lillashawn Coleman of Oak Park with a double leg takedown at the buzzer to win, 5-3.
