Personal: A former football player at the University of Toledo and high school wrestler, Porter discovered judo through a class at UT and has been passionate about the sport ever since.  Porter, who is legally blind, fought for a medal at his first major international competition – the 2006 Blind World Championships – and placed fifth in his division.  Later that year he became just the third legally blind judo player ever to earn a national ranking among sighted athletes when he placed second at the Dallas Invitational, a USA Judo Senior E-Level Point Tournament.
