Judo has officially been part of the Paralympic Games since the Seoul Summer games in 1988. Since then, the number of men and women competitors has grown many-fold and with close to 150 Paralympic Judo athletes expected to participate in the 2008 Beijing Games, Paralympic judo continues to enjoy growing popularity.

All athletes participating in Paralympic judo are blind or visually impaired. They compete under the same rules as all judo athletes with the exception that instead of a standard mat, that visually shows the boundaries of the competition area, they compete on one that uses different textures to mark the zones.

Through the year, these athletes participate in events throughout the country and you can follow the results of those competitions right here.
