Reser Wins Bronze at Belgian Open

Something about Belgium appears to hold good luck for Ryan Reser (Colorado Springs, Colo./Olympic Training Center USA Judo National Training Site/73kg).

Last year Reser was the top American at the Belgian Open event, narrowly missing the podium with a fifth place finish.

This time around the 2005 World Team member won a bronze medal Saturday in Vise, dropping only one match to Dirk Van Tichelt (BEL) during the event.

The loss would ultimately pit Reser against his Canadian rival Nicholas Tritton.  Tritton had knocked Bobby Lee (Lauderhill, Fla./North Miami USA Judo National Training Site) out of the draw after two opening wins earlier in the day and previously had defeated Reser in a tough final match at last year’s U.S. Open.

This time around Reser came out on top, winning the match and the bronze medal in a 68-man pool.
