Mose Woodson Classic – April 1st, Denton, Texas
UNT has confirmed the date for the 2006 MWC. It will be held on April 1, 2006. Once again, it will be in the UNT Men's gym (same as the last few years).
We have decided to do a few things differently. For example, we will hold the Men and Women's Master's Competition, early on Saturday morning, at the same time we are holding the kata competition. We would like to dedicate two mats to kata competition, if we can find enough kata judges.
Other than that, things will stay pretty much the same, Friday evening weigh-in and registration for all (7 to 8 pm), Saturday 8 to 9 Master's weigh-in and Kata registration, 8 to 9:30 Junior and youth weigh-in, 9:30 to 12, all adults.
We will start the junior and youth immediately after the kata and masters (but not before 11 am) and adult divisions immediately after that (but not before 1 pm)
FYI, the youth division is aimed at players between the ages of 17 and 19, but players below 17 will be permitted to enter, with the okay from their coaches, parents and tournament directors. Youth division will use Senior rules (i.e, chokes and armbars), regardless of the players age.
USA Judo Senior National Judo Championships and Kata & International Masters – April 21st & 22nd
George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston, Texas.
We expect over 750 of the best athletes in the U.S. to attend in Shiai, Kata, and Masters.

How Smart is Your Right Foot?
This will boggle your mind. And you will keep trying it at least
50 more times to see if you can outsmart your foot. But you can't!!!
1. While sitting on a chair, lift your right foot off the floor
and make clockwise circles with it.
2. At the same time draw the number "6" in the air with your
right hand. Your foot will change direction!!!
I told you so... And there is nothing you can do about it.
USA Judo Middle School, High School and Collegiates
The USA Judo Middle School and High School National Championships will be held March 25 at the Holiday Inn Select Hotel and Convention Center in Tinley Park, Ill. with registrations and weigh-ins March 24. This premiere event is a C Level Points tournament for athletes competing in the High School Championships. The Collegiate Nationals will take place in the same venue on March 26 with weigh-ins and registration taking place March 25. Collegiate Nationals are an E Level event, for E status only, not points.
Room reservations must be made by February 27 and can be placed by calling the Holiday Inn at 708.444.1100.
Early registration deadline is March 3. Entry packets and additional information are available at www.usjudo.org.
Please be advised that participants in the USA Judo High School National Championships, March 24-25 in Chicago, Ill., will receive IJF-Junior points for their placement in the tournament, rather than Juvenile B points. Visit www.usjudo.org for entry packets and additional information on this IJF-Junior C Level Points Event.
Revised entry packages, dated January 24, 2006, for High School/Middle School Nationals and Collegiate Nationals have been posted on USA Judo's Web site, www.usjudo.org.
The High School/Middle School Nationals will take place on Friday, March 24 (Check-in/Registration/Weigh-in) and Saturday, March 25 (Competition.)
The Collegiate Nationals will take place on Saturday, March 25 (Check-in, Registration and Weigh-in) and Sunday, March 26 (Competition.)
In addition, there will be an international High School activity on Sunday, March 26, after the Collegiate event.
On the entry packages that were originally posted last month, dated December 23, 2005, the dates and times on the Cover Page and on the Schedule of Events page (pages 1 and 2) WERE LISTED CORRECTLY in both entry packages.
However, on the page entitled "Early-Registration, Entry Fees, Tournament Check-In, Weigh-In" (Page 8 for Collegiate, page 7 for High School/Middle School), the dates/times were reversed: the High School/Middle School package had the dates/times for the Collegiate event, and the Collegiate package had the dates/times for the High School/Middle School event. These errors have been corrected in new revised packages. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
Athletes and coaches are reminded that US Citizenship is NO LONGER REQUIRED for participation in the High School and Middle School Nationals. Athletes must be a full-time student at a United States High School or Middle School, and meet all other eligibility requirements. The U.S. citizenship requirement for these events was eliminated in 2005. U.S. Citizenship was never required for Collegiate Nationals.
New this Year:
1. The weight divisions for High School Nationals also have been changed to create a consistency with the Pan American Judo Union weight divisions and make the divisions point-eligible for the Juvenile B and IJF divisions. The female 37kg and 41kg divisions have been replaced with a 40kg division. The Male 49 and 52kg divisions have been replaced with a 51kg division.
2. For 2006, referees must be rated at least N-2 to qualify as on-mat officials, for the High School/Middle School/Collegiate Nationals. Lower rated referees are welcome (and encouraged) to assist as Technical Officials.
3. An Open Division has been added to the High School Event. Athletes may enter their normal weight division and the Open divisions (two entry fees are required).

National Center for Human Performance
Have you ever wondered is there was a place where you could study athletes and learn how to get the best performance without having to pay an outrageous fee? Well, that’s what the National Center for Human Performance (NCHP) is doing for athletes from all types of sports. And, the research and evaluations are not costing the National Sports Governing Bodies a cent. NCHP is headquartered in Houston, Texas and supported by the Texas Medical Center, a group of 44 major hospitals. USA Judo officials are meeting with NCHP to see exactly how Judo can benefit from this service.
2006 Dynamic Edge Rules by Mr. Richard J. Celotto
Some of you may have heard about some changes to the rules which cover how to handle competitors going into the safety area.
First of all there are no official changes! The IJF is conducting a trial application of some new rules with regard to edge play. Since this just started at the beginning of the year in Europe at their top international events, there is much we still do not know about the details.
We will have some of our International Referees returning from working some of these International events with working knowledge of how the IJF wants these trial rules employed.
The USA Judo Referee Commission is currently determining whether to incorporate these proposed changes into certain senior events for trial.
When we finalize that decision I am sure the Commission will let you know. I will let you know.
I will also provide an explanation of the 2006 Dynamic Edge Rule. Please understand that currently it is not official and should not be used.
More on this matter later.
Healthy For Life
If you are looking for a way to become a healthier person right now, then you’ll want to check out the new program developed by Dr. Ray Strand, author of “Health For Life.” It is the most information program I’ve ever participated in. You’ll learn things about the glycemic index and insulin resistance, why you can’t lose weight, the most and least nutritious foods, nutrition specifically for competing athletes, and the best types of exercise. We all know Judo is the best exercise, but we need something for between Judo practices and for people who aren’t involved with Judo, yet.
If you’d like to learn more about this program, send an email to texasjudo@texasjudo.com with Healthy For Life in the subject.
Sports Nutrition
The experts in nutrition say we are not getting the optimum nutrition from the food we eat, so we need to add nutritional supplements to our diet. Read that great book “What Your Doctor Doesn’t Know May Be Killing You.” The most effect nutritional supplements based on independent studies are the products marketed by Texas Judo Health & Wealth Program. Here’s some additional proof: Thirty three percent (33%) of the U.S. and over fifty percent (50%) of the Canadian athletes who medaled in the winter Olympics were taking the products marketing by our Texas Judo program. For USANA Scholarship Information go to http://www.usana.com/en/company/athletes/index.shtml
To order the #1 rated nutritional products go to www.texasjudo.com and select the “Health & Wealth Program.”
