Overseas Extended Stay Training Program
Funding is available for elite athletes to participate in an extended training program in overseas locations. Elite players are encouraged to increase there exposure to international styles of judo. As there are significant style variations in different regions of the world, athletes must be exposed to these styles extensively in order to have medal success at the highest levels of competition.
Athletes who hold AT LEAST a B-Level on the USA Judo Senior Elite National roster, or who were past World, Olympic or Pan American Championships Team members will be eligible for consideration to receive funding. In addition, the extended stay must take place in Europe, Asia or Brazil for a minimum of three consecutive weeks. Athletes may not participate in any tournaments while training abroad as the extended stay must be used exclusively for the purpose of training. Therefore, athlete proposals that include attending school or working abroad will not be funded.
Interested athletes should submit a letter to Eddie Liddie, USA Judo Director of Athlete Performance, at Eddie.Liddie@usajudo.us detailing their training plans.
This letter should include the following:
- Dates and location of training
- Name of coach / program with which the athlete will be training
- Verification from aforementioned coach that the athlete has received approval to train in said location
- Estimated total cost of Extended Stay Training Program
- Goals for participation in Extended Stay Training Program
This program will be discontinued when funds are exhausted.
