The IJF Junior rosters are maintained for the purpose of athlete ranking and team selection for events that use the International Judo Federation (IJF) Junior Category, which is defined as Athletes "under 20 years of age during the current year." For 2005, these are athletes that are born in 1986 or later (1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, etc.), i.e., no minimum age.
Points earned in Senior events, High School Nationals and divisions in Junior events that conform to the IJF Junior definition, will be added to this roster. On January 1 of each year these rosters are modified to eliminate those athletes whose year of birth have made them ineligible for Junior team selection.
The IJF Junior roster also is used to select athletes to Pan American Judo Union (PJU) events that restrict athletes to years of birth limited to 1986 - 1988 (in 2005). When the IJF Junior roster is used to select athletes for this PJU limited category, the athlete selected from the IJF Junior roster will be the highest ranked athlete who meets the year of birth criteria.
For example, if the #1 ranked athlete was born in 1989, and the #2 ranked athlete was born in 1988, then the athlete born in 1988 would be selected to attend the PJU event. |
