In partnership with the US Performance Center, USA Judo is launching a first-ever National Resident Training Team in Charlotte, NC.
The US Performance Center is home to resident teams from USA Field Hockey, USA Taekwondo and USA Rugby with bobsled and skeleton, football, archery and artistic swimming athletes all training at the facility as well throughout the year. The USPC is based out of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
The program offers athletes access to in-state tuition and scholarships at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte as well as access to judo training and a wide breadth of sports performance assistance, including sports medicine, sports psychology, nutrition, strength and conditioning and rehabilitation support.
Team members also will receive support for housing, training and competition expenses.
Applications are being accepted now for athletes interested in participating in the program.
Robert Eriksson led the Swedish National Team for more than 17 years, including the 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020 Olympic Teams. With Eriksson at the helm, the Swedish Team’s results included two podium finishes at the 2021 Senior World Championships as well as a pair of top-five finishes at the 2019 Senior Worlds. Eriksson’s success in 2021 resulted in a nomination by the International Judo Federation for the best coaching achievement of the year.
A former Swedish National Team member himself, Eriksson also placed in the top-10 at the Senior World Championships and was an eight-time Swedish National Champion.
Eriksson was named as head coach of the National Resident Training Center Team in September of 2023 and will work with the USA Judo high performance staff in the creation and implementation of USA Judo’s first-ever Resident Development Team.
